Production has been completed on Kung Fu league or Kung Fu big league as it’s also known. It features 4 historical martial arts legends.
The comedy takes iconic martial artists and actors who have previously portrayed them such as Dennis To Yu-hang (“The Legend is Born – Ip Man“) as you guessed it, Ip Man, Vincent Zhao (“Once Apon A Time in China – TV Series and the 4th and fifth movies in the series”) as Wong Fei Hung also famously portrayed by Jet Li. Andy On of “Black Mask II” and “True Legend” fame also joins the film as Huo Yuanjia, founder of the Chin Woo Athletic Association, and most famously also portrayed by Jet Li in 2006’s “Fearless”
Rounding out the “Kung Fu League” is Bruce Lee look-a-like Danny Chan in the role of Chen Zhen, known for portraying the man himself in “The Legend of Bruce Lee” television series.
Chen Zen was also famously portrayed by Bruce Lee in Fist of Fury and Jet Li in Fist of Legend. Donnie Yen portrayed him in Legend of the Fist: The return of Chen Zhen. Chen Zhen was believed to be based on Huo Yuanjia most skilled student Liu Zhensheng.
Only one it’s really missing is someone to portray Beggar Su the Drunken Master.
I can’t find anything on IMDB about it but from the trailer, it looks like 4 legendary martial artists are somehow transported to present day where they participant in some sort of tournament before teaming up naturally to take on the bad guys. Sounds epic.
Director Jeff Lau – best known for some of Stephen Chow’s hit flicks like Kung Fu Hustle, A Chinese Odyssey Part 1 and Part 2 – has come up with what looks like another winner with Kung Fu League.
Set to be released next month, it’s definitely one to look out for.
