Taking a look back at 2018. Once again it was a great year for martial arts movies and TV shows. With Into the Badlands, DareDevil, Iron fist, Accident Man and of course, The Night Comes For Us. It’s time to look forward to 2019 and what we can expect. In my opinion, we’ve already had 1 great martial arts flick already in 2019, Revenger so It’s looking pretty epic. It seems we just can’t get enough action martial arts movies and they just keep on coming which is great news obviously. Here are the most anticipated martial arts movies of 2019 you definitely need to look out for. Also check out 2020 anticipated martial arts movies.

Triple Threat

This is a no brainer. The most anticipated martial arts movie by far of 2018 and now 2019. Should be released any week now. With powerhouses of martial arts, Scott Adkins, Tiger Chen, Michael Jai White, Iko Uwais, Tony Jaa plus JeeJa Yanin of Chocolate fame and former UFC champ Michael Bisping, you can understand why this movie is so anticipated. The only other person I’d like to see in it is Matt Mullins. A brief synopsis, a billionaire’s daughter attempts to take down a major crime syndicate so a hit is taken out on her. A group of professional assassins takes the contact and a group of mercenaries is hired to protect her. Gonna be an absolute must for any martial arts fan.

John Wick: Chapter 3

After the last movie with our man John Wick violating the sacred rules of The Continental. He has a 14 million dollar bounty placed on his head so once again our Judo/Aikido/BJJ expert takes on all comers but this time other assassins and hitman just like him including Jerome Flynn, Lawrence Fishbourne and one of my all-time favorite martial artist Mark Dacascos. It’s good to see him back on the big screen. Here’s hoping for an epic one on one between Dacascos and Reeves. Personally, I would just leave the 14 million. Can’t spend it if you’re dead.

The Invincible Dragon

Now this one is looking truly awesome. I’m looking forward to this and Triple Threat the most just from the trailer. Jin Zhang of Ip Man 3 and The Grandmaster stars. Plot details are really thin but from the little I’ve gathered says Zhang is an undercover agent with a dragon tattoo that helps police solve mysterious cases. It also stars Former UFC champ, Anderson Silva. Check out the trailer, it’ pretty awesome.

Ip man 4

Ip_Man_4

No trailer for this one yet. As stated by Donnie Yen himself, the last of the Ip Man series for him. Once again Yen reprises his role as the Wing Chun Grandmaster Ip Man. This time he travels to the US where his student, I’m guessing Bruce Lee has upset the local masters by opening a Wing Chun school. Kwok-Kwan Chan also returns as Bruce Lee.  He also plays Chen Zhen, Bruce Lee’s Fist of Fury character in Kung Fu League. Looks like the guy is a natural at playing Bruce Lee. Still no sign of Jackie Chan in the IMBD casting, really hope it happens. But on the upside we have a very own Mr. Adkins starring and will no doubt be squaring off with Yen, making it the first time to do so on camera, hoping it happens more in future movies. The guy just can’t stop making and starring in movies.

Furie

Showing that women can kick just as much arse as men we have Furie. Veronica Ngo of Stars Wars: The Last Jedi and Bright stars as Hai Phuong. A retired gangster is living in the countryside after becoming a mother but her past catches up to her when her daughter is kidnapped. They soon find out they kidnapped the wrong kid as Phuong turns back to her old ways and will do anything to get her daughter back. Really not much info on the on IMBD apart from a trailer. Looking pretty good.

Warrior

I know it’s not a movie and only a TV show but it’s all looking so epic as another teaser trailer has dropped this month. Based on the writings of Bruce Lee. It tells the story of a young martial arts prodigy (Ah Sahm played by Andrew Koji), arrival from China. He soon finds himself caught between the bloody China town wars. The trailer states Warrior is coming April 5th 2019.
